Forceful or Splashing Flow
Water that arrives with excessive force may indicate pressure above the preferred range or a pressure-control valve that needs assessment.
Professional, Reliable Plumbing Services for Okanagan Homes
Water Pressure & Protection
Balanced Pressure. Quieter Plumbing. Practical Protection for Your Home.
Water pressure affects how fixtures perform and how much stress is placed on valves, supply lines, appliances and other plumbing components. Pressure that is too high can accelerate wear, while pressure that is too low can make ordinary household use frustrating.
Coral Home Comfort provides residential water-pressure testing, high- and low-pressure diagnosis, pressure-reducing valve service, main shutoff replacement, water-hammer correction, potable expansion tanks, leak-detection devices and automatic shutoff solutions throughout Kelowna and the Central Okanagan.
We measure the system, assess the accessible plumbing and explain what the results mean before recommending the appropriate repair or protective upgrade. Backflow prevention, testing and vacuum-breaker services are available where applicable.
Signs to Watch For
Pressure concerns can affect the whole home or appear at only one fixture. Testing helps separate a system-wide issue from a localized plumbing problem.
Water that arrives with excessive force may indicate pressure above the preferred range or a pressure-control valve that needs assessment.
Low pressure at several fixtures can have different causes than poor flow at one faucet or shower and should be diagnosed accordingly.
Noise when a faucet, dishwasher or washing-machine valve closes may involve water hammer, high pressure, loose piping or another hydraulic condition.
Recurring failures do not prove that pressure is the cause, but they are a reasonable reason to test the system and inspect the affected connections.
A main valve that is seized, leaking or unable to stop the water can make routine maintenance and urgent isolation more difficult.
Leak sensors and automatic shutoff systems can provide an additional layer of protection when properly selected, installed and commissioned.
Measure Before Recommending
A pressure reading provides useful evidence, but the number must be considered alongside when and where it was measured and how the plumbing behaves in use.
Static pressure is measured when water is not actively flowing. It helps identify the pressure available to the home's plumbing at rest and whether pressure control deserves closer assessment.
Observing performance while fixtures operate can reveal a pressure drop, flow restriction or other condition that may not appear in a single static reading.
Residential pressure testing is a diagnostic service and is more involved than Coral's complimentary visual in-home plumbing inspection. Coral will explain the recommended testing and any associated service before proceeding.
Pressure Control and Isolation
A pressure-reducing valve, or PRV, is used where incoming pressure must be reduced and regulated for the home's plumbing. It does not increase low municipal pressure. If a PRV is worn, incorrectly adjusted or no longer regulating reliably, Coral can test the system and explain the options.
The main water shutoff should also operate reliably and remain accessible. Coral can replace an aging, leaking or seized main shutoff and test the new valve after the home's water service is restored.
Additional Water-Damage Protection
Leak-detection devices can monitor selected areas or plumbing conditions and alert the homeowner when a concern is detected. Compatible automatic shutoff systems can also close the home's water supply when their programmed conditions are met.
Coral can review the home's main water entry, available installation space, connectivity and the areas you want to protect before recommending an appropriate solution.
These devices can reduce response time, but no monitoring or shutoff system can detect every possible leak or guarantee that water damage will not occur.
Control Pressure Changes
Water hammer is a pressure wave that can occur when moving water stops quickly, often as a fast-acting appliance valve closes. The resulting bang or shudder can also be influenced by high pressure, pipe movement or another condition, so diagnosis should come before installing a device.
Where appropriate, Coral can install a hammer arrestor near the source of the pressure change. In a closed plumbing system, a correctly sized potable expansion tank can provide space for water that expands as it is heated.
Protect the Potable Water Supply
Backflow protection helps reduce the risk of water moving in an unintended direction and affecting the potable water supply. The appropriate device and any testing requirement depend on the connection, application and local requirements.
Coral can assess residential backflow-protection needs and provide prevention and testing services where applicable. The required approach depends on the installed assembly and the plumbing connection being protected.
Vacuum breakers are used at appropriate hose and fixture connections to help prevent backsiphonage. Coral can install or replace a suitable device and verify the completed plumbing connection.
Backflow requirements are application-specific. Coral will identify the visible device or connection, explain the applicable service and confirm the scope before work begins.
What to Expect
We review the symptoms, affected fixtures and any history of pressure, noise or leakage problems.
We measure pressure where appropriate and assess accessible valves, controls and related plumbing.
We describe the findings, recommended repair or protection upgrade and the proposed scope of work.
We complete the approved work, restore the supply and check operation, pressure and accessible connections.
Professional Pressure Diagnosis and Protection
Coral can test the system, explain the results and recommend the appropriate pressure-control, shutoff or plumbing-protection solution for your home.
